From the Director of Information Technology, Larry Hanks:
Dear Edwardsburg School Family and Community Members,
After School Tutoring
After school tutoring is offered to help students who are at risk of not passing the core curriculum in the areas of Reading, Mathematics, and Writing.
Two students per classroom are chosen by their teachers to attend Student Leadership Training at the beginning of the school year. These students are then responsible to welcome new students to their classroom, help them bond to school, introduced them to school personnel, and provide them information regarding school safety issues.
Student Assistance Team meetings provide educational support and ideas for teachers who may have students experiencing difficulties.
Students are trained as mediators to help resolve issues of dispute between their peers. The desired outcome is to enhance peer relationships and develop life-long conflict resolution skills.
Group Counseling Services
Group counseling services including School Success, Children of Divorce, Study Skills, Anger Management and Esteem Team are offered.
Pen Pal Orientation
Intermediate students interact through written correspondence with students enrolled at Eagle Lake and Middle School, which serve as mentors during a year-end orientation day, which allows students an opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new school.
Enrichment & Literacy Groups
A Reading Specialist meets with Enrichment Groups once a week to work on advanced writing skills with students who score high in Language Arts on the NWEA Test.
Title I Aides and the Reading Specialist also provide small group reading instruction to students through Literacy Groups.
